This Leaf Collage is a collection of Australian native leaves; each carefully painted with intricate patterns using oil and acrylic paint. Gathered from beneath the towering gum trees that surround my home, these fallen leaves become both canvas and storyteller. As they drift gently from the canopy, I collect them and transform their natural surfaces with layered motifs before arranging them into a mandala on a primed board.
The circular composition reflects the interconnectedness of nature, culture, and personal experience. Each painted pattern draws inspiration from the many cultures that have shaped my life, while also responding to the natural landscape and the man-made environment that surrounds me. The leaves, once part of a living tree, are given a renewed purpose, inviting viewers to reflect on themes of place, identity, renewal, and our relationship with the world around us.
